Children’s Liturgy of the Word is an opportunity for children to leave the main church assembly during the Liturgy of the Word portion of mass and listen to a specially formatted children’s version. This allows children to hear and reflect on the readings at an age-appropriate level, giving them a better understanding of the Word.
No registration is needed to participate in Children’s Liturgy of the Word. The priest will call children to the front of the church and dismiss them after opening prayer. All children ages 5 to 10 are welcome to come and participate at that time. Children return to the main church assembly before Liturgy of the Eucharist. Children Celebrate!, by Pflaum Publishing Group, is the curriculum used for Children’s Liturgy of the Word.
Currently, Children’s Liturgy of the Word takes place on the first and third Sundays of the month at the 9:30 am and 11:15 am masses.
St. Francis of Assisi relies on parents, families and parishioners as volunteers to support our children in growing their faith including sharing the Sunday readings in Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) during mass.
There are two Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) volunteer roles:
- CLOW LEADER: These volunteers are given a comprehensive guide that details exactly what to say and do to lead the Liturgy of the Word for the children.
- CLOW ASSISTANT: These volunteers help with managing the group and keeping the children focused.
Commitment for both volunteer roles is only 20 minutes on Sunday morning during the 9:30 AM or 11:15 AM mass on the first and/or third Sunday of the month.
