The St. Francis Music Ministry witnesses the love of Christ with music and is open to any parishioner who has a love for music. The parish boasts many groups, both vocal and instrumental, which gives parishioners opportunities to share their gifts of music.

St. Francis has choirs open to youth (starting at 3rd grade) through adulthood. There are also opportunities for individual instrumentalists, accompanists, and cantors to play and sing. For more information, contact Emily Schmid, Director of Music, at 515-223-4577, ext. 105.

Music Opportunities

Cantor Ministry

As song leaders for the congregations, cantors have an important role in the liturgical life of the church. St. Francis invites advanced-level singers who wish to expand their ministry to be trained as a cantor. Training and formation is available.

Accompanists

Accompanists are essential in liturgical music. If you play the piano and feel called to share your gift through the act of accompanying, we invite you to join the accompanist ministry at St. Francis. Advanced-level piano experience is required. New to accompanying? Training and formation is available.

Instrumentalists

St. Francis boasts a thriving instrumental music ministry. Woodwinds, brass players, strings and percussionists all share their gifts in different capacities to enhance the musical experience during liturgy. St. Francis welcomes all with an intermediate to advanced-level playing ability to join our ministry.

*Please contact Emily Schmid, Director of Music, if you are interested in being a cantor, accompanist or instrumentalist at St. Francis of Assisi.
