Old Covenant to New Covenant: A Sacramental Journey

This Lent, St. Francis is journeying through the covenants of the Old Testament.
Alongside these covenants, we will also explore the 7 Sacraments of the Church and how to bridge the Old Testament covenants with the New Covenant established by Jesus Christ.

Isaiah and Anointing of the Sick

1st Reading: Isaiah 50:4-7
Psalm 22: My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?
2nd Reading: Philippians 2:6-11
Gospel: Mark 14:1-15:47

Isaiah prophesied the coming of the Messiah through the image of a suffering servant. Christ’s suffering on the cross brought forth His resurrection, showing us the good that can come from hardship. We are called to unite our suffering to Christ’s. The Anointing of the Sick offers a way to obtain grace to suffer well and offer up our sickness as prayers for the Church.

Reflective Questions
Are you generous or judgmental in how you view others? What are some crosses you have had to bear to remain faithful?

Practice of Charity
Participate with your family in the Triduum. Weave your blessed Palm branch into a cross and place it where you can observe it daily. Pray for the sick and those in need of healing.
