Old Covenant to New Covenant: A Sacramental Journey
This Lent, St. Francis is journeying through the covenants of the Old Testament.
Alongside these covenants, we will also explore the 7 Sacraments of the Church and how to bridge the Old Testament covenants with the New Covenant established by Jesus Christ.
Noah and Baptism
1st Reading: Genesis 9:8-15
Psalm 25: Your ways, O Lord, are love and truth, to those who keep your covenant
2nd Reading: 1 Peter 3:18-22
Gospel: Mark 1:12-15
In the covenant God made with Noah, He renews the original covenant broken by Adam, bringing Noah and his family back into relationship with God. The flood waters in the Noah story foreshadow the waters of Baptism through which we are brought into the family of God.
Reflective Questions
How do we resurrect, restore, and bring new life when we hold grudges, engage in self-pity, and fail to live fully due to fear? How open are you to being set free from the things that hold you back?
Practice of Charity
Create a prayer basket for your prayer table. Add prayers to it each day: prayers of thanksgiving, prayers of hope, and prayers of need. Pay attention to the intentions/prayers of the faithful at Mass. Continue to pray those prayers throughout the week.
