Our Service programs and groups allow us to put love into action. If you have an idea and are not sure which group it would fall under, please send all questions to Social Concerns. Explore the links below for more information on each program.
Church Opportunity Group (COG)
This is a group of West Des Moines churches united in Christian service to the community.
Funeral Luncheon Ministry
The parish provides a luncheon for the family and for those attending the funeral. Parishioners who volunteer to help at funeral luncheons see first hand how grateful the families are and that the people who attend can feel the love and compassion extended to them by our parishioners.
Girl Scouts
Girl Scouts unleashes the G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader)™ in every girl, preparing her for a lifetime of leadership – from taking a night-time hike under the stars to accepting a mission on the International Space Station; from lobbying the city council with her troop to holding a seat in Congress; from running her own cookie business today to tackling cybersecurity tomorrow.
Habitat for Humanity
Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity partners with God and all members of our community to build simple, decent housing which strengthens families and transforms neighborhoods through home ownership.
Homebound Ministry
Homebound Ministry serves those members of our church body who, due to physical limitations, are unable to attend church services regularly.
Homeless & Hungry
The Homeless and Hungry Committee at St. Francis of Assisi offers parishioners the opportunity to assist homeless and hungry people in the greater Des Moines area.
Knights of Columbus
The Knights is a group of men that brings fellowship along with their fundraising for many groups like the Mentally Challenged, Special Olympics, ARC Industries, Ruby Van Meter School and Bishop Drumm Alzheimer Unit.
Prayer Shawl Ministry
A Prayer Shawl is a hand crafted knitted or crochet shawl that is given to an individual who is in need of prayer, hope, comfort and love. The purpose of the shawl is to let the recipient know that they are being thought of and prayed for in difficult times. This ministry of making and giving shawls serves as a gesture of love in difficult times.
Scouts BSA
Scouting is adventure, family, fun, character, leadership and so much more. In Scouting, boys start with their best right now selves and grow into their very best future selves. It’s fun, hands-on learning and achievement that puts kids in the middle of the action and prepares them for today – and for life.
Stephen Ministry
Stephen Ministry is a one-to-one lay caring ministry providing high-quality, confidential, Christ-centered care to people experiencing loss or dramatic changes in their lives.
