First Communion 2018

Sacrament Preparation-First Reconciliation and First Communion

What an exciting time in your child’s faith life! The Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion are typically celebrated during the child’s 2nd grade school year. Children enrolled at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School will receive sacrament preparation during their religion classes. All other children will receive their sacrament preparation through Together in Faith.

All parents, regardless of where their children are receiving sacrament preparation, will need to attend a parent meeting and retreat (with child) for each sacrament. Details about these dates are below.

If your child is older than 2nd grade and you desire for your child to receive the Sacrament of First Reconciliation and First Communion, please reach out to Lisa Schmidt, Director of Faith Formation, or call the Faith Formation Office at 515-440-1030.

Sacrament Information & Fee

Certain sacramental information is needed for us to complete the St. Francis of Assisi First Communion sacrament registry. The baptismal certificate does not always contain these details, so we will need this information from each student via a Google Form.

Please complete the following steps:

  1. Visit https://tinyurl.com/20-21sfasacrament.
  2. Fill out the Google Form with the required sacrament information.
  3. With your permission on the Google Form, the $25 sacrament preparation fee will be charged to your FACTS account mid-November.

If you have any questions, contact Lisa Schmidt, Director of Faith Formation, or call the Faith Formation Office at 515-440-1030.

Together in Faith Sacrament Preparation

Sacrament Preparation for First Reconciliation and First Communion is part of Together in Faith. There are seven sessions for you and your child to complete over the course of seven weeks in preparation for the Sacrament of First Communion. Each session is meant to be explored together with your child beginning with some vocabulary that might be unfamiliar.

  • Intentionally schedule and honor a time each week to focus on one session. Begin each session in prayer.
  • Attending Mass each week is important. This helps your child become aware and familiar with the different parts of the Liturgy. Ask your child to watch for something different each week and then discuss after Mass.
  • Cherish this time and share in the joy of the mystery of the Mass!

Teaching Mass: Sunday, March 7 at 2 p.m. (for parent and child)

Your household is invited to attend a teaching Mass just for Together in Faith sacrament prep families! Our priests will concelebrate Mass, stopping along the way to “show and tell” why we do what we do during Mass. Join us in person in the Church. Note: attendance will fulfill your Sunday Mass obligation.
